ದಯವೇ ಧರ್ಮದ ಮೂಲವಯ್ಯ,
ಕೂಡಲಸಂಗಯ್ಯನಂತಲ್ಲದೊಲ್ಲನಯ್ಯ!
"What religion is there without compassion?
Compassion must flow towards all living beings!
Compassion is the very root of righteousness —
Without it, Lord Koodalasangayya will not be pleased."

ಕಳಬೇಡ, ಕೊಲಬೇಡ
ಹುಸಿಯ ನುಡಿಯಲು ಬೇಡ
ಮುನಿಯಬೇಡ, ಅನ್ಯರಿಗೆ ಅಸಹ್ಯಪಡಬೇಡ
ತನ್ನ ಬಣ್ಣಿಸಬೇಡ, ಇದಿರ ಹಳಿಯಲು ಬೇಡ.
ಇದೇ ಅಂತರಂಗಶುದ್ಧಿ, ಇದೇ ಬಹಿರಂಗಶುದ್ಧಿ
ಇದೇ ನಮ್ಮ ಕೂಡಲಸಂಗಮದೇವರನೊಲಿಸುವ ಪರಿ
Do not steal, do not kill, do not speak falsehoods.
Do not be angry, do not despise others.
Do not praise yourself, do not blame others.
This is inner purity, this is outer purity —
this is the way to please Lord Koodalasangamadeva.

ನಾನೇನು ಮಾಡುವೆ ಬಡವನಯ್ಯಾ

ಶಿರವೇ ಹೊನ್ನ ಕಳಸವಯ್ಯಾ
ಸ್ಥಾವರಕ್ಕಳಿವುಂಟು ಜಂಗಮಕ್ಕಳಿವಿಲ್ಲ
The wealthy build temples for Shiva —
what can I, a poor man, do?
My legs are the pillars, my body the shrine,
my head the golden spire.
The stone temple shall perish; the living being is eternal.

ಕೂಡಲಸಂಗಮದೇವಯ್ಯ
ನಿಮ್ಮ ಮಗನೆಂದೆನಿಸಯ್ಯ.
Let no one say, "Who is this man? Who is this man?"
Let all say, "He is ours, he is ours, he belongs to us."
O Lord Koodalasangamadeva,
may I be known as your son.

ಲಿಂಗವ ಪೂಜಿಸುವ ಕೈಗಳು
ಕಳ್ಳತನ ಮಾಡುವ ಕೈಗಳು ಒಂದೇನೇ?
ಜಂಗಮವ ವಂಚಿಸುವ ಕೈಗಳು
ಲಿಂಗಕ್ಕೆರಗುವ ಕೈಗಳು ಒಂದೇನೇ?
ಅಂತರಂಗ ಶುದ್ಧವಿಲ್ಲದವನ
ಭಕ್ತಿ ಲಿಂಗ ಮೆಚ್ಚುವುದೇ?
Can the hands that worship the Linga
be the same hands that steal?
Can hands that deceive the Jangama
bow before the Linga?
Will the Linga accept the devotion
of one whose inner self is impure?

ನಾನೊಂದ ನೆನೆದರೆ, ತಾನೊಂದ ನೆನೆವುದು;
ನಾನಿತ್ತಲೆಳೆದರೆ, ತಾನತ್ತಲೆಳೆವುದು;
ತಾ ಬೇರೆ ಎನ್ನನಳಲಿಸಿ ಕಾಡಿತ್ತು;
ತಾ ಬೇರೆ ಎನ್ನ ಬಳಲಿಸಿ ಕಾಡಿತ್ತು;
ಕೂಡಲಸಂಗನ ಕೂಡಿಹೆನೆಂದರೆ
ತಾನೆನ್ನ ಮುಂದುಗೆಡಿಸಿತ್ತು ಮಾಯೆ.
When I think one thing, it thinks another;
when I pull one way, it pulls the other.
It tormented me as though it were apart from me;
it wearied me as though it stood separate.
When I sought union with Lord Koodalasanga,
the maya (illusion) stood before me and confounded me.

ಸಂಸಾರಸಾಗರದ ತೆರೆ ಕೊಬ್ಬಿ
ಮುಖದ ಮೇಲೆ ಅಲೆವುತ್ತಿದೆ ನೋಡಾ!
ಸಂಸಾರಸಾಗರ ಉರದುದ್ದವೇ ಹೇಳಾ?
See how the swelling waves of worldly existence
crash and surge upon my very face!
How vast and unfathomable is this ocean of samsara — can you tell me?

ಸಗಣಿಯ ಬೆನಕನ ಮಾಡಿ
ಸಂಪಿಗೆಯರಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪೂಜಿಸಿದರೆ
ರಂಜನೆಯಹುದಲ್ಲದೆ,
ಅದರ ಗಂಜಳ ಬಿಡದಣ್ಣ!
If you fashion an idol of Ganesha from cow dung
and worship it with champak blossoms,
it may appear beautiful —
but its foul nature will never leave it, my friend!

ಕಾಯಕವೇ ಕೈಲಾಸ
ದಾಸೋಹವೇ ದೇವರ ಪೂಜೆ
ಕಾಯಕದಲ್ಲಿ ನಿರತನಾದವನು
ಕೂಡಲಸಂಗನ ಶರಣ
Work itself is Kailasa (heaven);
service to others is worship of God.
One who is devoted to honest work
is a true devotee of Lord Koodalasanga.
